Debate Project | Abortion Rights
|
This document is my debate essay final draft. For this project we were asked to pick a topic and side to later debate in front of an audience for exhibition. I picked to debate on abortion rights, and I picked to debate the side that abortion should be illegal unless in the case of incest, rape, or the pregnant person's life is in danger. Although in reality I don't support this side of the argument I wanted to challenge myself to debate this topic from the side my beliefs don't align with. Doing this gave me an understanding of the other perspective that I wouldn't have had if I didn't do this. It's important to listen to the other side especially when you disagree so that you at least have an understanding of what they believe and why.

Personal Narrative | Poisonous Purple Yam
This document is of a mini project we did of writing about a significant moment in our life. I chose to write about a moment that I have grown from. When I was younger I was surrounded by kids who did not look like me. None of them came from the culture I did. When I chose to bring a special treat to school that was made of a colored yam that is not normally seen my classmates made jokes. This personal narrative let me grow as a writer by using lots of imagery to help the reader see and feel exactly what I saw and felt all that time ago.

Affordable Housing Project | From The Ground Up
|
In San Diego when I drive down the streets of downtown to school I see just how large our homeless community is. Every other day I see police pull up to the curb to clear out a camp. When seeing them get cleared out, all I can think of is how the system needs to be set up better and increase the resources they provide. When hearing Ken Saragosa talk about how the homeless community is criminalized, it showed me how the community sees those who are homeless as a problem that can be fixed without treating them with humanity. San Diego needs to create more affordable housing and destigmatize how the homeless community is seen. Through this project I worked with a group to design and build a model of affordable housing we could build here in San Diego

Spanish Documentary | Judit
For this project in Spanish class we had to record an interview with a native Spanish speaker in Spanish to learn about their life and journey with the language. We then took the footage and took many days to edit it into a documentary about the interviewee telling the story we wanted it to. Through this project I learned about Judit and her family life, passions, and hopes for the future.
